We have an excellent opportunity for a QC Scientist to join our growing Quality team at our Manchester based manufacturing facility. The QC Scientist will play an important role in a growing team applying state of the art techniques developed in cell culture, ELISA and PCR and a range of biological and physico-chemical assays.

About Instil Bio (UK)

Instil Bio, Inc., a US headquartered cell therapy company focused on solid tumors, is currently rapidly expanding its infrastructure in Manchester, U.K. via its subsidiary, Instil Bio (UK) Ltd.

Instil Bio is developing patient specific immunotherapies in oncology, allowing the patient’s own immune system to be harnessed to fight cancer. The world renowned team and it’s scientific advisors/investors have tremendous experience and track record in technology discovery, process development, GMP manufacturing and clinical operations with a track record of developing and gaining approval for successful cell therapies.

Recent significant investments in Instil Bio are enabling the company to undertake Phase 2/3 to registrational clinical trials in solid tumors. Instil Bio (UK) is located between the University of Manchester and the main hospital campus, and is set to grow significantly in several key areas (GMP Manufacturing, Quality, Process Development, Support and Admin) to support these objectives.

QC Scientist – PCR/ELISA

The QC Scientist will be responsible for assisting in the Instil Bio (UK) GMP Quality Control department testing under the guidance of the QC Manager or QC Deputy Manager / Senior QC Analytical Scientist, as the QC Manager sees fit.

The post holder will be required to:

  • Perform standard operating policies & procedures (SOP’s) to GMP including state of the art techniques developed in cell culture, ELISA and PCR and a range of biological and physico-chemical assays
  • Undertake validation and technical transfer studies of assay methods and validation of equipment as required
  • Work closely with Production to ensure timely and efficient testing of QC samples
  • Ensure samples are stored and managed appropriately to comply with GMP regulations.
  • Produce and review technical documentation (SOPs, MPDs, etc) as part of the quality management system
  • Clearly and accurately record/transcribe and communicate translational & GxP procedures
  • Perform critical checks of the records of fellow staff and external contractors/suppliers 
  • Be aware of the regulatory requirements (GMP, GCP etc), particularly those relevant to cell therapies, and support Out of Specification investigations, deviation management, change control and CAPA to ensure continued GMP compliance.
  • Order equipment & consumables and perform routine stock checks to maintain levels of critical stock, as well as communicating with suppliers and sourcing new consumables/equipment as required


Essential Requirements: 

  • A graduate degree level in a biological science related discipline
  • A basic knowledge of biomedicine and cell biology
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years (depending on qualifications) experience of ELISA and PCR within a GMP QC testing environment

Previous experience in some or all of the following may be an advantage:

  • Cell therapy GMP QC
  • Cell culture
  • Immunotherapy
  • Biomedicine
  • Genetic/protein engineering
  • Professional Registration in an appropriate subject area
  • GMP, Quality Control or Quality Assurance experience in the field of ATMP, biological therapies or a related field
  • Understanding of the role of the MHRA, HTA and H&SE in Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Organisational skills demonstrating an ability to perform complex multistage procedures within a group and as an individual

Remuneration And Benefits

The salary for the QC Scientist will be competitive within the Biotechnology and wider scientific sector with actual salary offered reflecting relevant qualifications and experience as well as performance at interview. In any event, we anticipate offering a salary within the £25,000 to £34,000 range. Instil Bio (UK) salaries are accompanied by a competitive benefits package.
