You cannot stop progress
The best answer to this question is probably this: embrace technology! You cannot stop progress.
That being said, there is no replacement for human intervention and instinct when it comes to the finer points of gathering, assessing and ultimately choosing candidates for your clients’ open positions. The most successful companies utilize a combination of both.
A skilled workforce that’s aided by the wonders of AI stands poised to benefit from better time management, increased productivity, more prospects and a higher rate of closed deals.
Those that rely solely on AI may not fare so well.
Amazon’s recent AI snafu
Nothing illustrates this better than Amazon’s recent AI snafu.
In October, the company reportedly scrapped their AI recruiting system for bias against women.
Applications containing the word “women’s” were consistently downgraded.
This happened because systems powered by artificial intelligence learn to make decisions based on historical data which often perpetuates existing biases.
In the Amazon example, that bias was the male-dominated tech industry.
With less than gender-neutral results, the software could not be trusted to perform the job alone, and those involved could not be certain that other biases had not made their way into the program.
So, it stands to reason that the recruitment solution in question did not pass muster.
The Age Of Recruiting Automation
Amazon is not giving up on AI all together, of course. But the anecdote does show that smart people—the skilled workforce—remains an important part of the success equation.
Also on the bright side, it’s easier and more cost-effective than ever to integrate new technology into any business. According to Forbes, more and more recruiters are using automated mechanisms for hiring top talent, and the industry is responding accordingly.
The July 2018 Forbes article Welcome To The Age Of Recruiting Automation states “From initial candidate sourcing to the final hiring decision, new technologies are coming to market quickly to address the latest hurdle.
Today, the recruiting automation landscape encompasses nearly 70 different technologies, and we anticipate this number will only grow.”
The right SaaS recruitment program
The right SaaS recruitment program will rev up your capabilities in a number of areas making all aspects of your day-to-day operations more manageable.
Ideally, it would be best if you looked to partner with a company whose product easily allows for multi-posting options, includes a robust recruitment CRM and provides easy-to-manage application tracking, candidate/interview management and more.
Stop fearing and start welcoming
So, stop fearing the AI take over and start welcoming it.
The sooner you make automation work for you and the people in your organization—yes real people—the sooner you’ll cut down on clutter and have more time to focus on what really matters.
