What is a message part?

A text of up to 160 standard characters is one part. Longer texts are split into parts of 153 characters, and a text containing emoji or non-Latin characters holds 70 characters per part. The composer shows the part count before you send.

Does the price depend on where my number is?

Not for sending. A text you send is priced by the country you are texting, so a UK number and a US number pay the same to text a UK mobile. Receiving is priced by the country your own number is in.

Is receiving a text free?

In most countries, yes. Where the carrier charges to receive — US numbers, for example — the inbound rate is shown on that country's page.

What are carrier fees?

Mobile networks in the US and Canada add their own fee to every message part, and it differs by network. We cannot know the recipient's network before a text is sent, so those pages show the fee as a range.
